I love that today’s challenge Blogging Challenge prompt is “How do you envision your teaching changing over the next five years?” A very timely question. Our professional development for teachers today in Liberty Public Schools included sessions led by George Couros and Will Richardson. The uniting theme of the two sessions was understanding modern learners and how education must shift to become relevant for today’s students and tomorrow’s future.
Our teaching must become less about teaching and more about learning. Our teaching must become less about standardization and more about personalization. Our teaching must become less about content and more about communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Our teaching must become less about the past and how we learned and more about the future and how our students learn.
Much like the idea that we are preparing our students for a future and jobs that do not yet exist, I am anticipating my teaching will change in ways that I am not yet sure. But it’s what our world calls for and our students need. It’s sure to be challenging and rewarding.
